Pinterest: Even If You Don't "Get It" - Get It.
Friday, 06 April 2012 20:40

"I just don't get it."

That is what we hear the most from buyers, brands, and some bloggers about the latest social media sensation, Pinterest. Pinterest is an online PIN board that members use to share things that they are interested in. Users share everything from how to graphics to beautiful images and inspirational messages.  Where do the images come from?  All over the internet.  If the user has a "pin" button on their browser, they can stick a pin in images that appear on the website that they are viewing.

What does this mean for brands? One - they have to add another sharing button to their web pages for those who do not have a "pin it" button on their browser.  Two - their customers can now share images from their website yet ANOTHER way!  Images link back to pages that they come from. For example, if a customer is searching for a new pair of shoes, they can not only pin the items to their pin board and compare them with others, but they can also open their pin board up to friends and they can help decide, add other shoe images from your site and others, make comments, and quickly and easily pin items from the customer's board onto their own... and the cycle of sharing begins all over again.

Brands are using Pinterest to showcase new items in hopes of getting their most amazing images repinned on as many boards as possible.

How are bloggers using Pinterest? Bloggers are using Pinterest as an extension of their blogs.  Pinterest is already integrated with Facebook, so bloggers are using it as a quick micro blogging opportunity.  It is a chance for bloggers to share their favorite brands and products as soon as they post about them or run across them on brand or other blogger websites.

What about buyers? This is where brands and buyers alike are getting the most out of Pinterest.  Buyers follow boards of other buyers, friends, and bloggers whose interests they share, and even if they don't purchase it immediately, or act right away, the idea is "pinned" to their board, so they will revisit it each time they are reminded of other items that fit into that category, and they return to Pinterest to "pin" it.

Pinterest is still by invitation only.  Granted Media regularly sends invitations for new clients who are looking to join.  Clients and bloggers, to request an invitation, complete the contact form on the right of this page.
